Optimizing Healthcare Development

Optimizing Healthcare Development: A Digital Solution for Innovation Management

Key Facts

Roles: Design Lead, Usability testing, Power Apps development

Duration: 4 months

Team Size: 2, 1 designer, 1 Power Apps developer

Key Stakeholders: Portfolio Marketing

Tools: Power Apps, MS Lists, Power Automate, Miro, InVision

STAR Analysis

  • At Philips Healthcare, teams were developing healthcare solutions simultaneously without effective means to share information or identify potential synergies. I was tasked with designing and implementing an internal PowerApps application that would capture and compare information about Suites of Solutions (SoS) in development. The idea-to-market process was fragmented, with solution documentation confined to PowerPoint presentations and limited cross-business unit collaboration. The tool needed to integrate with existing systems, be accessible to employees involved in the idea-to-market process, and connect with other business tools like roadmaps and dashboards.

    • Led discovery sessions with stakeholders to map current processes and identify pain points

    • Developed a solution comparison framework inspired by e-commerce interfaces

    • Created and tested prototypes using InvVision for user feedback

    • Collaborated with a contractor developer to build the PowerApps solution

    • Worked with the Design Language System team to establish PowerApps-compatible design patterns

    • Coordinated with dashboard and roadmap teams to ensure cross-platform compatibility

  • The project successfully delivered a functional PowerApps solution that enabled users to input, maintain, and compare Suites of Solutions across multiple parameters. While organizational changes ultimately prevented implementation, the project established valuable patterns for internal applications and demonstrated effective collaboration across multiple stakeholder groups. Key achievements included:

    • Created a standardized system for documenting and comparing healthcare solutions

    • Established new design patterns for PowerApps within the company's Design Language System

    • Developed a scalable backend using Microsoft Lists for future integration capabilities

Process & Deliverables

Project Overview

A Suite of Solutions combines healthcare tools that work together to address key challenges. The project created an internal PowerApps app documenting these solution suites, allowing comparison to prevent duplication and create synergies.

As part of the Map of Maps initiative, this project aimed to create a standardized tool system as the single source of truth for business information. The SoS tool needed to integrate with Roadmaps, Dashboards, Plan of records and portfolio marketing processes.

Discovery

  • Reviewed and mapped the current process with stakeholders.

  • Coordinated with other projects' dashboard and roadmap teams to align solutions across all process stages.

  • Tested workflows using Microsoft 365 apps, including Microsoft Lists and PowerApps.

Prototyping & Testing

  • Developed a solution comparison conception inspired by e-commerce bicycle comparison tools to evaluate multiple suites of solutions.

  • Created an InVIsion prototype for user testing.

Development

  • Gathered and documented requirements.

  • Developed the PowerApps solution in collaboration with a contracted developer.

  • Implemented the digital Design Language System, working with DLS system Center of Excellence to create PowerApps-compatible design patterns.

Solution

  • The app enables users to input and maintain information about Opportunity Areas and their corresponding Solutions, allowing real-time updates as solutions evolve.

  • Users can search and compare Suites of Solutions across multiple parameters, including Business and User categories.

  • The Microsoft List backend facilitates data flow into future roadmapping and dashboard applications.
